Dr. Crystle Alonzo is a clinical practice researcher and a certified speech language pathologist (SLP) specializing in child language and literacy disorders. She is an assistant professor in the School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at San Diego State University and the director of the CORAL Lab. Crystle worked for several years as an SLP in a variety of settings with diverse clinical populations. These experiences continue to influence her research aims. Specifically, Dr. Alonzo’s research is focused on advancing the understanding of comprehension models of language and reading to improve assessment and intervention practices for young children with developmental language disorder and dyslexia. This is done with an emphasis on accessibility, feasibility, and sustainability for practicing clinicians while supporting students and their families.

Erica is a first year PhD student in the SDSU-UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Language and Communicative Disorders. As a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist, she has specialized in working with school-age children with language-based learning disorders in educational, clinic, and research settings. Erica’s research interests in language and literacy development and disorders are at the intersection of clinical practice and education. Through incorporating Implementation Science frameworks, she aims for her research in Dyslexia and Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) to improve educational and socioemotional outcomes for children with language and reading challenges. In Erica’s free time, she loves traveling, hiking in beautiful places, and trying new restaurants and coffee shops. She is new to San Diego and can’t wait to find a favorite place to eat.

Priscila is a second year M.A. student pursuing her degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. Currently, she is interested in becoming an SLP to work with school-aged children or early intervention. Outside of school, Priscila loves hanging out with her friends and family, trying new coffee shops, and working out!

Gia is a second year M.A student at SDSU’s Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences program. She has a B.A in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences and a minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Colorado Boulder. Gia is interested in working in a school setting with young children. Gia loves to try new recipes and read in her free time!

Stephanie is a second year M.A. student in SDSU’s Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences program. She is interested in working with the pediatric population once she becomes a licensed SLP. Artah is currently a second year M.A. student in San Diego State’s Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) program. Ashley is a second year M.A. student at San Diego State University in the Speech-Language Pathology program. She received her B.A. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at SDSU. She is currently serving as treasurer on the National Student Speech, Language, Hearing Association (NSSLHA) executive board and works as a SDSU Ambassador. In her free time, Lillian enjoys going to the beach, reading, and playing water polo.

Edriana is a 4th year undergraduate majoring in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Cultural Proficiency at San Diego State University. She is currently serving as a JEDI Coordinator on the National Student Speech, Language, Hearing Association (NSSLHA) executive board and a SLHS student representative in the DEI Council. In the near future, she hopes to attend Grad School to pursue a career in the Speech Pathology field as an SLP. Although she is still deciding which setting to work in, she hopes to experience all scopes of this practice, including but not limited to, geriatric and pediatric patients. She enjoys finding new adventures around San Diego with her two children and cooking up new recipes!
